I’m at a loss as to what eco-friendly cleaning agent to use to mop our treated (oiled) wooden floor. Ecover floor soap is not recommended for treated surfaces. What can I use? Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

If your floors aren’t waxed, you can try 1/2 washing soda diluted with a bucket of water (and a few drops of essential oil if you like.) It’s a great degreaser.

Hi Jasmine, was that 1/2 a cup?

Oops, yes

Hi there,
Loving this website, have just found it. Have been slowly moving towards a more sustainable way of living over the last few years and have now started looking all over the internet for other people’s experiences and so on.
Anyway, my contribution to this post is to ask if you’ve ever heard of this product:

I bought some a couple of months ago and have to say I’m very happy with it. Having said that I don’t have kids but it’s probably worth looking at. I bought mine from EocLogic (which is Dublin’s only real organic shop) but as I’m based in Ireland can’t offer you any suggestion on local-to-you suppliers.
Good luck,
Jean

Thanks for the suggestion Jean, I bought a couple of those just last week for general kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Haven’t tried it for the floors though, and hadn’t thought of trying it either, I’ll give it a go.

Hey, my first post did work - woohoo!
There’s a particular cloth set available for floors - there’s a swiffer-type handle and head with velcro strips which you stick the pads onto. There’s one for dusting (I rarely use the hoover any more on non-carpet floors) and another for using wet to wash the floors with. As the handle adjusts to quite a long length I find it much easier to use than a conventional hoover or mop (I’m 5′9″ and always end up bent over).

And it saves electricity too, an excellent idea!
