The Home Garden

Our home garden consists of a small front garden where we have replaced an overgrown and woody leylandaii hedge with a privet hedge and an old native hedging rose that will see it's second growing season this year (2006), a big beautiful yellow rose growing next to the front door and up to Piper's first-floor bedroom window, a few rosebushes outside the lounge window, and a cherry tree that we planted in the spring of last year.

In the back garden we inherited a lawn, a small rhododenrun and a large forsythia and have planted two apple trees, a pear tree, green gage tree, fig tree and kiwi fruit vine.  We've also planted bamboo for screening, a tree fern, canna lillies, a gunnera, some hydrangeas, two fatsia japonicas, a black locust tree, a smoke tree, evergreen honeysuckle, a wisteria, three jasmines, a bay tree, some geraniums, ivy and a few other shrubs.

We built a herb spiral last summer that is stocked with rosemary, parsley, basil, lemon balm, coriander and tarragon.

We have lots of extra tomato plants that won't fit into our allotment plot this year, so I've planted them out into the garden, as well as five pots with cherry tumbling tomatoes to go onto the deck when we've finished it.
